Evaluating the Outcome of Collaborative VR Mind Mapping Sessions with Sentiment Analysis and Emotional Intelligence

Project information

Collaborative brainstorming fosters creativity, social skills, and broad discussions, while mind mapping visually represents these outcomes. This study utilizes a Virtual Reality (VR) application to create an immersive environment for collaboration, acknowledging the complexity of group dynamics and the influence of emotions on results. By analyzing 13 VR sessions (N=39) through performance and sentiment analysis—an NLP technique that assesses text polarity—we explore the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and collaboration outcomes. The analysis distinguishes between problem-oriented and solution-oriented results, revealing significant correlations between the number of solutions generated and emotions such as joy and surprise, while showing a negative relationship with sadness. This mixed-method approach aims to enhance automated group work evaluation by providing objective insights beyond self-assessment questionnaires.
